First launched in 2008, Nippon Paint has been holding the AYDA (known as Asia Young Designers Awards) every year.
It is part of Nippon Paint’s vision to nurture the next generation of Architectural and Interior Design talents. It serves as a platform to inspire students of these disciplines to develop their skills through cross-learning opportunities and networking with key industry players, as well as their fellow peers in the region.
Winner in Hong Kong will be joining the overseas Platinum Awards Final, which allows young designer from different countries to exchange brilliant ideas and compete. Winner of the Platinum Award will be enrolled into a 3-week “Design Discovery” programme by Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Nippon Paint will sponsor the transportation, accommodation and tuition fee incurred, which is over 10K USD.

Theme of 2022: CONVERGE – Pushing the Reset Button
The pandemic has helped people around the world realize the importance of being in touch with ourselves. Now more than ever, having our lives restricted by the virus and its impact have shone focus on personal space and rejuvenation.
The theme of 2022 AYDA “CONVERGE: Pushing the Reset Button” is about merging man-made structures with personal rejuvenation and healing needs. You are required to bring different aspects of life and let it live through your design such that it will benefit its users.
Just like how through the pandemic, mother nature thrives in the absence of human destruction, how can good design promote collaborative relationships where people can live in unison with nature.

AYDA 21/22 International Finale Highlights

Professionals and rising talents from all over were flown in to connect with each other at this event and it was such a momentous one especially after the halt with physical events during the pandemic. Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) was first launched in 2008 as part of Nippon Paint’s vision to nurture the next generation of design talents.
Every year, AYDA presents yet another opportunity for young design talents to push their design boundaries further beyond the norm.
While AYDA 2021/2022 has come to an end and the International Award Ceremony was held on 7th July in Penang, Malaysia. Congratulations to our Finalists Mr. Juno Wong and Mr. Sherlock Chow and thank you for their great works.
